The Bedourie Hotel is the meeting place for travellers in the outback, with icy cold beer and an atmosphere you will only find in an outback pub. Established in 1886, the hotel is built from adobe bricks and has been continuously operating ever since. The current owner, Jim Smith, has owned the hotel since 1971.

Our Community

Bedourie is one of three towns in the Diamantina Shire, an oasis in the desert surrounded by Eyre Creek. Bedourie is home to the famous ‘Bedourie Camp Oven’ which the Australian Government claimed is significant and ‘uniquely Australian’ in 2001 and is sold at the Visitor Centre year-round.

Camel Races

12th of July 2025

Forget horses, it’s the camels that reign supreme in Bedourie. Be amongst the hundreds of race goers who converge on the town to watch dozens of camels race in six events, worth a total of more than AUD 11,000. Also amongst the action is pig racing, wood chopping and novelty events like the ‘old farts’ and ‘old boilers’ foot race.


Bedourie Cup Races

2nd weekend of September 2025

Get ready to dazzle in pink at Bedourie’s highly anticipated Races! All in the name of Breast Cancer patient support, the Bedourie Races marks the grand finale of the Simpson Desert Racing Carnival. Join hundreds as they flock trackside by day in their finest pink silks to back a winner crossing the pink finishing posts. Kick on with live music and a fun-flowing bar once the races are finished.
